Protect your skin against photoaging

Wrinkles, fine lines, hyperpigmentation and loss of tone: these are the most obvious signs of the passage of time on our skin, which we often struggle to associate with exposure to sunlight and ultraviolet rays.

When we talk about photoaging, we are in fact referring precisely to the direct result of cumulative sun damage that, over time, accelerates the skin's aging process.

Ultraviolet rays are among the main causes of premature skin aging; they damage the structure of the skin, resulting in increased oxidative processes, cell instability, and collagen metabolism, which responds by accelerating the processes of skin aging.

Photoaging is a chronic damage for which it is difficult to find effective remedies. It is important, therefore, to understand how to prevent it, with proper exposure to the sun, especially with the arrival of the warm season.

But how can we effectively protect our skin from the sun?

The key is to use specific products with an appropriate SPF (Sun Protection Factor), an index that measures a product's level of sun protection and its effectiveness against UVB rays.

To limit the harmful effects of ultraviolet, it is important to combine sunscreen products with good habits such as limiting sun exposure during the hottest hours of the day, moisturizing our skin regularly and using protective accessories.

Here are some tips for preventing photoaging and protecting your skin from the sun:

  • Protect your skin year-round, the use of an SPF should not be limited to summer: during winter you are still exposed to UV rays.
  • As spring arrives, expose yourself to the sun gradually: your skin will create natural protection by activating melanocytes.
  • Help strengthen your body and skin through a balanced diet: choose foods rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and carotenoids.
  • Limit sun exposure during the hottest hours (between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.): During these hours of the day, the sun is at its peak and its effects can be most damaging.
  • Last but not least, remember to hydrate regularly by drinking plenty of water and using moisturizing and nourishing products.
